Challenges

  • Very large number of FGs and RMs
  • Many RMs are considered as FG
  • One RM can be used for multiple FG but one FG will use only one RM
  • Each FG & RM is defined using unique combination of 10 to 15 specs
  • To predict if FG would be available on a particular month, you need to check the stock of FG, corresponding RM, alternative RM and also incoming (via purchases made) RM & alt-RM. Also check the impact of usage of these RM & alt-RM on other FG.
  • This complex materials management was done using Excel based spreadsheets
  • For each RM there is an alternative RM, which is defined by choosing a combination of specs
  • Existing procedure was very time consuming and error prone
  • Coordination between customer, sales, operations and purchase was difficult and time consuming
  • This was leading to poor customer service levels

  • Integrate different data sources (forecast, existing stock (FG & RM), incoming purchase (RM & Alt-RM), Material Masters.
  • Build a data model and architect the data mart
  • Automate the daily incremental data upload from various data sources to into data mart
  • Connect Tableau to data mart to create dashboards
  • Publish interactive dashboards on Tableau server to be consumed by all concerned users
